Reporting an Adverse Event

All medications have benefits and risks. Although medications are carefully tested before they are licensed for sale in Canada, some adverse reactions - also called “side effects” - may become evident only after a product is in use by the general population. We encourage you to report all adverse reactions you experience as your report contributes to improving the safe use of health products for everyone.

To report an adverse reaction:

  • Visit the Health Canada website at
  • Call your Regional Adverse Reaction Centre at 1-866-234-2345 (toll-free)
  • Contact the drug manufacturer directly.

When reporting an adverse reaction, your healthcare professional can provide information that can help you complete your report. When you report an adverse reaction, please be aware that information related to your identity is protected according to the Privacy Act. Information on this website should not be construed as advice or recommendations for the treatment of any medical condition.
